Overview

LegalQuants is building the foundations of a new profession: the legal quant — a lawyer who turns their legal judgment into systems that work without them, just as a finance quant turns a trading edge into code. Started in late 2025 as a WhatsApp group by Jamie Tso, a former Clifford Chance funds lawyer, it now runs the LegalQuants Academy (a four-week Residency taking lawyers from prompting to building with 1:1 mentoring), LQ Assess (a 90-minute agentic coding exam that benchmarks lawyer-builders), the LQBrain knowledge network, and LQAI, an Apache 2.0 open-source legal AI stack. The community counts 157 legal quants across 31 jurisdictions and works with OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, Replit and Manus on hackathons and ecosystem projects.
